The method behind
the massage.

γ€ŽTouch Β· Gaining Awareness (Mind & Body) Β· Cherishing Β· Relaxing』
Origin
Founded in Japan, 2015
Developed by LILY, a former aesthetician, after treating and counselling over 200,000 clients. Built on anatomy & physiology, kinesiology, philosophies of success, and subconscious work.
The four pillars
  • Touch β€” intentional, aware contact
  • Gaining Awareness β€” mind and body in unity
  • Cherishing β€” treating yourself with love
  • Relaxing β€” releasing, not forcing

02 β€”why the face ages

External factors
you can reduce.

  • UV Exposure β€” the biggest external ager
  • Pollutants β€” oxidative stress on skin cells
  • Diet β€” especially sugar, which degrades collagen

These are things you can actively manage through lifestyle, SPF, and mindful nutrition.

epidermis dermis β€” collagen & elastin hypodermis internal factors

What happens
from within.

  • Circulation & metabolism decline
  • Collagen & elastin loss β€” firmness and bounce fade
  • Muscle hardening β€” restricts lymphatic flow
  • Lymphatic stagnation β€” waste accumulates

This is precisely where Lilynage self-massage makes the biggest difference.

03 β€”the science of skin

How your skin
renews itself.

Your skin has three layers β€” epidermis, dermis and hypodermis. Within the dermis live two essential proteins that determine how your skin looks and feels.

Collagen
Scaffolding + structure β†’ Firmness
Gives skin its shape and firmness. Declines from our mid-20s β€” about 1% per year after age 25.
Elastin
Stretch and rebound β†’ Plumpness
Gives skin its bounce. Lost with age, sun exposure, and chronic muscle tension.
Key fact

The skin renewal process takes 28–40 days. Good circulation and lymphatic flow allow this cycle to work at its very best β€” delivering nutrients, clearing waste, and supporting collagen production throughout.

Clogged versus clear lymphatic system in the face
04 β€”the lymphatic system

Your face's
waste disposal system.

The lymphatic system keeps your renewal ability efficient. When it flows freely, your skin renews, detoxes and glows. When clogged, everything slows down.

Lymph is made up of
  • Water
  • Protein
  • Cellular waste and debris
  • Immune cells

Unlike blood, the lymphatic system has no pump of its own β€” it relies on muscle movement, gravity, and breathing to keep flowing.

When flowing well
  • Waste clears efficiently
  • Nutrients reach skin cells
  • Skin renews and glows
When clogged
  • Dullness
  • Puffiness
  • Sagging
  • Tired face

05 β€”3 key concepts

Make your lymphatic flow
3Γ— more effective.

Remember these three principles and every massage session becomes significantly more powerful.

01

Lymph has a direction β€” flow with it, not against it.

Lymph flows back toward the heart from all parts of the body. When we massage along the direction of its natural flow β€” toward the lymph nodes β€” we support the body's own detoxification and de-puffing process.

For the face and neck, this means guiding the flow downward, toward the collarbone area and back toward the heart. Think of it like following a river's current β€” move with it, and everything flows freely. Work against it, and you create stagnation. Let the direction of your touch be intentional, always moving lymph toward its natural destination.

02

Lymph and muscle go hand in hand.

Tight, hard muscles = blocked lymphatic flow. Healthy, soft muscles are your lymph's best friend. Muscle contraction is one of the primary drivers of lymphatic movement. When muscles are tense, lymph stagnates. Soften the muscle first, and lymph flows again.

03

Follow your bone line β€” reveal your natural beauty.

Deep drainage along the natural bone lines of your face cleans the 'gutters' β€” the spaces where stagnation accumulates most. Following the contours of your bones reveals definition, lifts the face, and restores your natural radiance. Deep drainage = clean the gutters = reveal your glow.

06 β€”your self-massage sequence

Step by step.

Face massage: 2Γ— per week Β· 10–15 min    Scalp, neck & shoulders: daily Β· 3–5 min

Part 1
Tension Release β€” Scalp
Scalp massage β€” loosen and soften with fingertip pressure
Hair pull β€” gently lift sections and release
Ear massage β€” warm up ears and release tension
Part 2
Tension Release β€” Neck + Chest
Slow strokes down the sides of the neck
Chest wall opening β€” clearing the main drainage pathway
Collarbone sweep β€” activate the lymphatic endpoint
Part 3
Tension Release β€” Face
Faceline definition β€” along the jawline
Masseter massage β€” release deep jaw tension
Lifting movements β€” upward and outward strokes
Part 4
Definition of Bones
Nose + cheekbone definition
Mouth β†’ nose β†’ eyebrow definition
Forehead massage
Final sweep to collarbones
Thank you + otsukaresama β€” 'thank you for your hard work'
07 β€”aftercare & daily practice

After every session.

Face massage frequency
2Γ— per week is enough.
Maximum 3Γ—. Give your face time to rest and renew in between β€” it is like exercise for your skin. More is not always better.
Scalp Β· Neck Β· Shoulders Β· DΓ©colletage
Daily is perfect.
The muscles here are stronger and firmer and are well suited to daily massaging. Reducing tension in these areas is very supportive for overall lymphatic flow and stress relief. A few minutes each day makes a real difference.

Drink plenty of water after every session. Water water water.

Always remember.

End your massage by sweeping lymph toward the 'garbage bins' β€” your lymph nodes. For the face and neck, this means sweeping to the collarbone area
Soft muscles = better flow β€” relax before you begin
Use enough cream so your hands glide, never drag
Drink water after every session
Small, consistent care β†’ real visible change over time
Forehead Prosperity Mountain Eyes Vitality & Fortune Nose Wealth Spot Lips 2nd River Cheeks Wealth & Authority Chin & Jaw Prosperity Mountain 福 your face is your fortune
08 β€”your face is your fortune

Your face
is your fortune.

In Chinese face-reading tradition, each feature of your face corresponds to a different area of fortune and vitality. A radiant, well-cared-for face is a face that attracts good fortune. As you massage each area, take a gentle moment to consider β€” which area of your life are you bringing some fortune to today?

Forehead
First "Prosperity Mountain" β€” smooth, round, prominent and wide. Clear of lines and blemishes. Governs career and fortune.
Eyes
Vitality & Fortune β€” bright, shining eyes indicate great fortune. Dark circles signal lack of vitality and energy.
Nose
The Wealth Spot β€” 1st "River" of the face. Rounder, fleshier, balanced and smooth = wealth flowing freely.
Cheeks
High cheekbones, full cheeks = wealth, prosperity, authority and career success.
Lips
2nd "River" β€” full, rosy lips attract luck and wealth. Dry lips = drying of your River and luck.
Chin & Jaw
2nd "Prosperity Mountain" β€” fleshy and well-contoured = luck, stability, and supportive relationships.

As you do your massage, take a quiet moment to wonder β€” which area of your life are you bringing some fortune to today?

β€”your questions answered

Frequently asked
questions.

Can I do this in the shower?

Not recommended. The shower washes away your skin's natural oils, which are actually part of what you want to work with β€” not against. The massage is designed to be done on clean, dry skin with a good cream, so your hands glide rather than drag. Save the shower for after!

When is the best time to do this?

There are two ways I personally do this:

  • As part of your skincare routine β€” after cleansing, toner and serum, apply your RU:KRM cream and use the massage as your moisturising step. It seals everything in beautifully.
  • As a standalone practice β€” just after cleansing, apply the cream and massage. Note: your hair may pick up a little moisture from the cream, so this works well just before a shower or hair wash.

Either way, always start with a clean face.

Can I use a cleansing oil instead of the massage cream?

I don't recommend it. A cleansing oil is designed to remove makeup and impurities β€” you want to be working on a clean face, not a face you're simultaneously trying to cleanse. Using a dedicated massage cream means the product is doing one job and doing it well: helping your hands glide, nourishing the skin, and supporting the lymphatic movement. Keep cleansing and massaging as two separate steps.

Do I need a special cream for this?

You need something that gives your hands enough slip to glide without dragging the skin β€” dragging can actually cause more harm than good. The RU:KRM creams are formulated specifically for the Lilynage method, with ingredients that support circulation and lymphatic flow as you massage. That said, if you're starting out and want to try the technique first, a small amount of your regular moisturiser will work while you explore.

a personal note from lynnette

When I reach for
this massage.

"Your skin has an incredible ability to renew, depuff and glow β€”
it just needs the right conditions."

I want to share something a little personal with you β€” because I think it might resonate.

i

Before major events

This has become my good luck charm. It calms me down, I know I'm going to look more glowing and radiant, and I know I'm actively sculpting myself β€” perfect before my own workshops. It's the me-time that allows me to show up and perform better.

ii

To forgive myself and be kind

Even when things don't go as planned, this practice reminds me to come back to myself with gentleness. There is something deeply grounding about caring for your own face with your own hands. It is hard to be harsh with yourself when you are being this tender.

iii

Before a date β€” yes, really

I reach for this before dates too, to boost my own internal confidence. Not to look a certain way for someone else β€” but to look in the mirror and think, hey, you're gorgeous already. That feeling? It shows.

iv

Before a photoshoot or big presentation

If you are the face of your own business, you will understand this. When the camera is coming out, or the stage is yours β€” this is the ritual that gets me ready. It works beautifully as a pre-event practice for any woman who wants to show up as her most radiant self.

Are you using this massage for something special?

I would genuinely love to hear from you. Share your experience β€” and especially your before and afters β€” with me on Instagram.
